Training for a More Digital and Uncertain Future

STRS 2020, taking place 24-25 March 2020 in London, UK, aims to foster innovation and build partnerships in simulation and training across the safety critical sector, through the sharing of information, ideas and networking.

Safety critical industries such as energy and power, medical, transport, construction, defence, security and first response have many years experience in exploiting simulation and wider technologies to support their training and education. STRS has been established to share simulation and training insights and experiences across the safety critical sector.

It is sometimes said that no one can predict the future, but we can work to be less surprised by it. It is vital that in the safety critical sector all employees as individuals and in teams can adapt swiftly to future changes, whether internal or external, to minimise risk and maximise performance. With continuous and often rapid and disruptive change in these industries as a result of the increasing digitisation of activities, together with changes in the geo-political context there is no better time to share ideas and benchmark against peers.

Building on the success of STRS 2019, the Halldale Group, in association with the European Training and Simulation Association (ETSA) is organising STRS 2020 and presentation abstracts are now being invited for the symposium.

We are particularly interested in thought leaders from the safety critical sector and academia who will share their strategies, challenges and visions for the future and describe current and future technological advances, with cross-domain themes such as:

  • Training strategies for the future
  • Training for the unexpected
  • Developing workplace culture and improving communications
  • Responding to demographic and workforce aspirational changes
  • New approaches to selection and retention
  • Competency and assessment based training
  • Training measurement and evaluation
  • Continuous training and reducing skill fade
  • Personalised training
  • Trends in simulation including AR/VR/MR and 5G
  • Exploiting and responding to advances in autonomous systems and AI

Abstracts should be submitted by Friday 18th October 2019 and include:
– The working title
– Your full email and postal address
– Up to 200 word abstract
– A short biography of the speaker and conference presentation experience

Please title your email “STRS 2020 ABSTRACT” and submit to Andy Fawkes, Conference Chair at Andy.Fawkes@halldale.com. Copy should also be sent to Fiona Greenyer, Conference Coordinator at fiona@halldale.com

Presentations must fit into the STRS format, which is 20 minutes maximum, followed by a Q&A period.

STRS is an “applied” conference and while full academic papers are not appropriate, we will consider summaries of appropriate training and education research projects.

Preference will be given to training organisations and their customers with real world training insights in the safety critical sector, ‘lessons learned’ and training ‘solutions and outcomes’ information. In no case will sales presentations be accepted.

We sincerely thank all those who propose presentations and will endeavour to respond to all submissions.
